First Ride All New Honda Vario 160

 The All New Honda Vario 160 is the newest scooter product in Indonesia. The presence of this product replaces the Vario 150 which was previously Honda's mainstay in the 150 cc segment and now comes with a more powerful engine update.

First about design. Overall, the Vario 160 looks bigger and wider than the previous model. This can be seen from the dimensions that have changed. The latest Vario offers a length of 1,929 mm, a width of 679 mm and a height of 1,088 mm. When compared to the old model, the dimensions are 1,919 mm long, 679 mm wide and 1,062 mm high. Driving Position

The comfortable sitting position is also felt thanks to the length of the steering handle that is not too wide. Riding Sensation

The main concern at the Vario 160 launch event was clearly the presence of the new engine. Honda embeds a 156.9 cc 4 stroke 4 valve ESP + engine with liquid cooling that produces 15.4 ps of power at 8,500 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. On paper this engine is up 2 ps and the torque is up 0.4 Nm from the old model.

This new engine is the same as that used by the latest PCX which on paper has a power of 16 ps at 8,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Precise control is also felt thanks to the presence of single-channel ABS braking with a single-piston 220-inch disc at the front and a disc brake at the rear for the ABS variant. Braking operation also feels easy thanks to the brake lever which is quite sensitive when pressed. The ability of this brake is also convincing to slow down the speed of the motorcycle.

It takes more time to feel the advantages of this new Vario 160 architecture. However, with the changes, compared to the old model, this scooter is certainly not to be missed for consumers who previously felt the old engine was less powerful and potential customers who wanted a 160 cc engine with a compact form aka not a scooter with an extended sitting position.

Platforms and Machines


So what are the changes? All New Voxy has used the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which is designed to improve the comfort and basic performance of a vehicle. The All New Voxy uses an engine coded M20A-FKS, which makes it the second Toyota model in Indonesia to utilize Dynamic Force Engine technology. Exterior


Carrying the Energetic and Bold themes, the exterior of the All New Voxy is futuristic and aggressive but still carries a premium impression. From the front, the design of the All New Voxy looks more edgy which radiates from the New Resilient Front Bumper & Intriguing Grille Design, a unique bumper and grille design surrounded by a chrome frame and New Bold Headlamp Design that blends seamlessly with the top of the grille.

From the side, the All New Voxy looks even more elegant thanks to the New Stunning 17-inch Disc Wheel which resembles an airplane turbine design and is wrapped in a combination of chrome and gray. While on the back side of the exterior of the All New Voxy, the New Stylish Rear Combination Lamp that stretches from left to right further strengthens the character of the All New Voxy which is modern and stylish.

The All New Voxy has dimensions of 4,695 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,855 mm in height which makes the cabin spacious and airy. As a Boxy MPV, the square roof without curves provides extra space just like in the atrium. Coupled with the use of the TNGA platform and supported by a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, the floor of the All New Voxy can be made low and flat to facilitate access in and out, movement in the cabin, and increase comfort.

Regarding the seating position, the All New Voxy has an easy bench setting feature as needed. The passenger distance, especially in the second row, is now claimed to be more spacious. The main feature of the latest Voxy is the third generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). This is the first time that TSS 3.0 is present in Indonesia with four safety features, namely Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Automatic High Beam (AHB).

How is it different from the previous TSS? TSS 3.0 is claimed to have a wider forward detection distance as well as up, down and left and right sides. Front detection can detect moving objects even at closer distances. Regarding the LTA feature, there is an improvement with detection technology using 3D Recognition so that more objects are detected, such as cars being parked, road dividers and road markings.

In the PCS feature, this feature improvement is in the ability to reduce speed better, including when detecting pedestrians and cyclists during the day or night. The new PCS also detects pedestrians and cyclists crossing its path from the opposite direction. This feature also detects motorcyclists passing at intersections, which is Toyota's first feature.

The DRSCC feature is also improved by setting the distance to four levels. This allows the Voxy MPV to maintain a longer distance from the vehicle in front. There's also a speed setting that can detect a second vehicle farther in front so it can adjust more quickly and accurately.

All New Voxy comes with four color choices, namely White Pearl, Glitter Black, Sparkling Black Pearl, and Metal Stream. The last two colors are included in the premium color and get a longer indent time, which is about 3 months if you place an order.  PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) officially launched the all new Voxy virtually today, Thursday, February 17, 2022. The presence of the MPV is expected to boost sales of the previous model that was born in the country since 2017.

Director of PT TAM, Anton Jimmi Suwandy said, the all new Toyota Voxy comes with a more premium design, abundant features, provision of safety technology, to the use of a new pacemaker that improves performance and fuel efficiency.

"Voxy is one of Toyota's flagship MPV products in Indonesia. Of course, the good response in this latest model is expected to continue," said Anton when introducing the all new Voxy, Thursday (17/2).

Regarding the sales target, Anton hopes that the latest Toyota Voxy with various changes that it carries can be sold at 200 to 250 units per month. This figure is slightly higher than the previous model Voxy sales figures.

"Indeed, Toyota Voxy sales for the past 2 years between 2020 and 2021 ranged from 120 to 150 units. I think with this latest model from Voxy, hopefully the market will also support it to increase to 200 to 250 units per month," he added.



As for target consumers, TAM also made revisions. Previously, the older generation targeted consumers, entrepreneurs or established executives with an age range of 40 to 49 years and their use as a family vehicle. So in this latest generation, the target consumers are young entrepreneurs who focus on technological sophistication.

"But in the future for Voxy there will be additional younger consumers we call Pioneer Entrepreneurs. They prefer the latest technology, stylish oriented. I think this latest Voxy will really meet the priority segment, both businessman and also the pioneer entrepreneur segment who looks more at technology and style," he concluded.

 Michael Vetter has officially become Managing Director at Eurokars Artha Utama, which oversees the German brand, Porsche.

 In fact, this 53-year-old man has been effectively working in Indonesia since January 2022. Having a lot of experience and extensive knowledge at all levels of distribution, he is ready to oversee all business operations and strengthen the Porsche brand in the Indonesian market.

His name can be said to be familiar in the automotive world, especially Porsche. Vetter has long experience with car brands from Germany. His achievements also continue to grow and much of his career has been spent developing business in the Asia Pacific region.

Before serving as Managing Director at Eurokars, it turned out that being able to work in a car company and owning a vehicle, especially a Porsche, was one of his dreams since childhood. He told this during the Virtual Media Gathering Exclusive on Thursday (17/1).

“If I may tell you a little, the Porsche has been my dream car since I was little. I am the son of parents who live simply. One day I dreamed of working and driving a Porsche. For the sake of realizing that dream, I tried and studied diligently. Finally that dream came true after graduating from university and joining Porsche. From there I got a 911 car. Even though it is not a personal car, I am very happy and at least I can sit in the seat of my dream car, “he explained.

Just like employees in general. His career started from the bottom and has a long history. Starting from graduating from college and then getting a job offer from Porsche AG in Germany. Holding a Master of Business Administration degree, he was immediately given responsibility for retail marketing for Porsche dealers. The man who graduated from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen also manages about 40 dealers in Germany.

After working in a coveted company, Vetter then had another dream, namely to work abroad. And it turns out that the marketing field that he is engaged in is able to take him across the European continent to the Asia Pacific region.

At that time my boss asked, are you interested in working in an area other than here? Yes I answered. My efforts have paid off again. And actually Asia is not part of the dream, because I've never been there. But because I like challenges, I immediately accepted the offer and became Area Manager Sales & Marketing for Asia Pacific Porsche AG on January 1, 2000,” he admits.

According to him, it was a very extraordinary day and he can never forget. His first trip to Asia started from Singapore, then Korea and then Taiwan. In 2001 Porsche opened a regional office in Singapore and he was part of the startup team there by becoming Regional Manager Sales & Business Development for Porsche Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. His job is to maintain the quality of marketing in 13 countries including Indonesia.

“Because I have a long history with reports in the Asian region, I ended up staying in Singapore until 2005. Actually I was part of the team that at that time chose importers for Indonesia. So from the start, we have been involved with the Indonesian market in this business,” he said.

But another group picked him up in 2005 and was appointed President of Stuttgart Sports Cars Ltd. - Korean Porsche Importer. There he helped grow the business and started from a very small team. It consists of 20 people who can only sell about 10 cars per month. From one showroom to a small workshop, we developed a joint master plan and set a vision to sell 1,000 units five years later. And no one really believed it then.

“Actually we are almost there, but because of the financial crisis in 2008-2009, I think we have been back for about a year. But I remember in 2009 when the Panamera was launched we sold about 700 units. So we have passed the financial crisis. During eight years leading Stuttgart Sports Cars Ltd as an Exclusive Independent Porsche Importer and Distributor in South Korea, sales increased from 130 units in 2005 to 2,100 units in 2013. From 1 dealer to 7 dealers, and from 23 to 300 employees.

"Effort never betrays results" is what happened to a man who likes cycling. In January 2014 he was promoted to President & CEO Stuttgart Sports Cars Ltd as Porsche Retail Group Korea. From there he was entrusted to manage the largest authorized Porsche Dealer group in South Korea with 6 Exclusive Porsche Centers located in Seoul (2), Busan, Incheon and Bundang (2).

Nearly 10 years of experience setting up a national company, he was finally awarded as Chief Executive Officer at Precision Cars (Cambodia) Limited in March 2015. His main business returned to the way it was when he was first in Korea, becoming an Exclusive Porsche Importer & Distributor.

Due to his expertise in sales, networking and product development, in 2018 the group again asked him to help grow AMG's business in China. There he was in charge of 37 AMG dealers. Plus two independent AMG dealerships opened under his supervision at that time.

Then in 2019 the German-born man decided it was time to spend time with his family. Finally he returned home and lived again in Berlin. "I moved back to Berlin only about three weeks before the coronavirus pandemic was announced," he said.

“Actually, I was lucky enough to be in Berlin with my family. But apparently that's not the case in business terms. It was a very difficult time to pass and it had a global impact, so the effects of the pandemic are still being felt today.”

Actually during his 2 or two years in Germany, he kept in touch with friends in Asia. Finally he was offered the opportunity to join as Managing Director at Eurokars. Michael Vetter is responsible for overseeing all business operations and strengthening the Porsche brand in the Indonesian market.

“I am very happy and honored to be here. I miss being in Southeast Asia. I was also happy when Eurokars proposed to me to join and help him grow his business here.”

Vetter said that leading the Porsche business in Indonesia even during the pandemic was a dream come true. He believes that Indonesia has a huge market potential for Porsche. "Our focus is clear, namely to expand our sales and service network nationally and become the number one importer and dealer of luxury sports cars in Indonesia," he said.
