AHM Recall Honda PCX and ADV160, Indicated Malfunction in CVT Components

PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) wrote to several Honda PCX and ADV160 users to check and repair components at the official AHASS workshop. This can be called a recall campaign because AHM found a malfunction in the CVT components of the two scooters.

Several owners of Honda PCX and ADV 160 received a letter from AHM with the theme Product Update. This information was first revealed through uploads on several Facebook community forums. The component repair and replacement activities are effective from September 2022.

The part that needs to be checked and replaced is the Pulley Assy Drive. Indications of this component malfunction are said to have occurred on the Honda PCX and ADV160 because these two scooters indeed pack the same platform.

AHM Recall Honda PCX and ADV160, Indicated Malfunction in CVT Components

It is explained if the thickness of the part is uneven due to an imperfect production process. If left in the long term can potentially cause noise (noise) in the CVT area. On the other hand, it can also reduce the decrease in performance of the part.

"To avoid this, consumer calls and replacement of CVT (Pulley Assy Driven) components at official Honda motorcycle workshops are free of charge," wrote AHM via uploading a recall/product update letter to one of the owners of the Honda PCX160.

Related to this, General Manager of Corporate Communication of AHM, Ahmad Muhibbuddin, confirmed that there was information for Honda PCX and ADV160 owners to replace the components in question. He ensures that this is a step to ensure customer satisfaction and comfort.

"That's right, we invited several consumers who own the two models (PCX and ADV160) to AHASS to inspect the Pulley Assy Driven section to ensure the condition of their motorcycles is always in the best condition," said Muhib.

But he said this did not happen to all Honda PCX and ADV160 units. It was explained that there were only a few consumers who were sent to immediately check their vehicles at an official workshop.

"Not all. Only a few consumers are written or texted, or consumers can check independently on the AHM website," he said.

To determine whether your motorcycle must replace the Pulley Assy Driven component, you can visit the official AHM website. How to click the Home link, scroll down, select Corporate, and visit Product Update.

There will be several fields that you must fill in, starting from the vehicle frame number, the name of the vehicle owner, and the cellphone number. Or you can contact Honda Customer Care at 1-500-988.

HJC Releases New Sonic The Hedgehog Graphics for the RPHA 11 Series

HJC Helmet has come up with some pretty eccentric designs over the last few years. The product line up always gives a different feel. An example is in the RPHA 11 unit livery of several DC and Marvel themed super heroes. The latest South Korean helmet brand has released Sonic The Hedgehog graphics.

One of the top helmet brands in the motorcycle industry is now partnering with Sega of America. The collaboration resulted in a unique design, featuring one of the biggest video game icons, Sonic the Hedgehog. This is not the first time that HJC has collaborated with a video game company. Previously, this South Korean brand made work with Activision and produced a helmet with the Call of Duty design.

HJC Releases New Sonic The Hedgehog Graphics for the RPHA 11 Series

As we know, Sonic the Hedgehog is the mascot of the video game company Sega Corporation since 1991. Its presence became popular thanks to the Sega Genesis game console. Over the years, Sonic and Sega have spawned countless video game sequels. Even now, there are games based on character toy applications, animated television shows, and action films that are adapted directly from blue animal characters.

Just like other character-themed helmets, Sonic graphics are poured into RPHA 11. The entire shell is dominated by the classic blue color typical of anthropomorphic hedgehogs. The forehead to the vents on each side is filled with green eyes. Characteristics of white gloves and red shoes also appear on this helmet. While on the back there is an exclusive font according to the Sonic the Hedgehog theme.

Regarding the price, the RPHA 11 retails for €629.90 (Rp9.3 million). This price is certainly much more expensive than in Indonesia. For example, RPHA 11 DC and Mervel characters here are only sold for Rp. 7 million. While the RPHA 11 plain motif is only Rp. 4 million.

Speaking of specifications, the HJC RPHA 11 is actually included in the racing helmet category or for racing purposes. The shell is made of a mixture of carbon and carbon-glass hybrid fabric. A total of 5 layers in one, and named and Special Composite Premium Integrated Matrix (PIM Plus) aerospace standard. Claimed to provide enhanced shock-resistant performance and aerodynamic levels for extreme performance at maximum speeds.

Then he has a flat visor type HJ-26 2D, can optimize visibility and also provide UV-A & B protection up to 99 percent. The pinlock and tear off post have been attached and two visors are given, clear and dark. The feature is the Rapidfire II Shield Replacement System or a quick visor release mechanism that makes removing or installing the visor very concise and easy. At the end there is a locking visor so it doesn't open easily. Create a circuit safety standard given the DD ring model chin belt.

While the interior features Multicool Polygiene. Wear anti-bacterial cloth and provide moisture-absorbing and fast-drying functions. All parts including the cheek pad, crown pad, chin curtain and neck roll are removable and washable. Then there is the groove for riders who wear glasses.

Vents are on the front, forehead, top, rear exhaust, bottom rear. Everything has been tested in the laboratory as well as in "real life" to meet the highest quality standards. HJC is a helmet company equipped with state-of-the-art wind tunnel laboratories, to test aerodynamics, ventilation, noise and more. In addition, it can measure air power under various riding conditions to improve helmet performance.

Additional safety features include reflective material in the back neck area and an emergency release cheek pad system for safe and fast helmet removal in an emergency situation.

This helmet complies with ECE 22.05 regulations. Tests include energy attenuation, penetration resistance, chin strap structural integrity, and labeling requirements for motorcycle helmets on the road. While the RPHA 11 Pro type has an additional DOT. So a little heavier 100 grams. And if you enter Indonesia, of course, you are SNI certified. HJC offers the helmets in sizes XS-XXL, but new units will be available in late 2022.

Because of this part, Honda PCX160 and ADV160 have to be recalled

Astra Honda Motor announced to Honda PCX160 and ADV160 owners to check parts at the nearest authorized dealer. This is due to a Product Update related to the replacement of Face Set Drive. This program is not fully addressed to all users of the two scooters, but only those who receive a summons.

The letter that was distributed to consumers said it was face set driven, but on the body of the text it was written Pulley Assy, Driven. That means there are some components that need to be replaced. Our assumption of replacement includes the face set driven, double clutch and clutch bowl or a set of Secondary Sheave (Driven Pulley). So how does the rear CVT component work?

Because of this part, Honda PCX160 and ADV160 have to be recalled

In the CVT transmission there are 3 main components that play an important role in transmitting power to the wheels of the vehicle.

  • Primary Sheave (Drive Pulley)
  • Secondary Sheave (Driven Pulley)
  • V-belt

The Primary Sheave is located at the front, while the Secondary Sheave is at the back. These two components are connected by a V-belt. These three components determine the amount of output in the form of torque and speed, which are then channeled to the axle and then to the wheels of the vehicle.

The operation of this transmission is by shifting the diameter of the V-belt on both parts of the pulley. When "low gear" or just running, the radius of the drive pulley is small, while the driven pulley is large. Meanwhile, when the "high gear" is the opposite, the radius of the drive pulley increases, the driven pulley decreases.

Regarding Secondary Sheave (Driven Pulley) or secondary Pulley consisting of Secondary Fixed Sheave (fixed secondary pulley), Secondary Sliding Sheave (moving secondary pulley), Secondary Sheave Spring, Secondary Shaft (secondary pole), clutch carrier (centrifugal clutch), clutch housing (clutch housing), cam torque and reduction gear.

Problems that often arise are usually from the clutch housing (bowl), centrifugal clutch lining and secondary sliding sheave.

Symptoms of the clutch housing (clutch housing) is usually a halting acceleration at lower revs. The indication is because the shape of the bowl is no longer flat. So that it is not optimal to bind the clutch lining. This condition could be due to frequent opening of the gas and braking immediately.

Then from the centrifugal clutch lining which starts to wear out. Usually there is a squeaking sound, the acceleration of the motor feels slower both at the lower and upper rounds. Then the secondary sliding sheave which is worn or eroded due to the continuous rotation of the V-Belt. In addition to the rough sound, the symptom caused is that acceleration at mid-speed feels stuck, but returns to normal as the engine speed increases. The habit of hitting the gas cycle can be the cause of this problem.

As we know, in the summons, the reason for Honda to withdraw the PCX160 and ADV160 is due to the potential decrease in face set driven performance and noise (noisy) in the CVT area. The reason is that there is an error in the production process. As stated in the following announcement:

"Uneven part thickness due to an imperfect production process, which in the long run can potentially cause noise in the CVT area and result in a decrease in the performance of the part. To avoid this, customer calls and CVT component replacement (Pulley Assy., Driven) are carried out at official Honda motorcycle repair shop free of charge. Immediately contact the nearest AHASS or call our contact center 1-500-989 to get product updates for free."

DFSK Parent Company Changes Name to Seres Group

The success of Seres as one of the EV vehicle brands belonging to the Sokon Group continues to increase, especially in terms of sales in China. This popularity finally decided to change the name Sokon Group to Seres Group and oversee a number of automotive brands DFSK and Seres itself. Currently, Seres has collaborated with Huawei to develop premium electric vehicles in China and several other countries outside China.

DFSK Parent Company Changes Name to Seres Group

The collaboration between Seres and Huawei has actually existed since last year when it introduced its first electric car, the Seres SF5 in China. In addition, Seres was also able to sell 7,807 vehicles in July and an increase of 8,873 percent (year-per-year). So far this year alone, the Seres brand of vehicles has sold more than 29,000 units in China.

After the success of the Seres SF5, Huawei and the Seres Group then launched the Aito in December which was followed by the release of the Aito M5 which then made it increasingly known by consumers in China. This hybrid-powered SUV immediately received a positive response from consumers, as many as 6,000 units of the Aito M5 were sold within five days of its introduction. In addition, Aito and Seres also bring a number of cutting-edge technologies into the M5, including PETAL Map and Harmony OS Smart Cockpit Cockpit Navigation Experience.

The change in the name of this group of companies also affected the name of the company's stock acronym which is traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE). Sokon's name will be changed to Seres in order to facilitate investors' understanding of the company's position and strategic plans to be carried out. However, the change in Sokon Group's name to Seres Group does not affect the automotive brands under its auspices, one of which is DFSK.

The new energy vehicle business journey has actually been initiated by Seres Group since 2016 and still uses the name Chongqing Sokon Industrial Group Co Ltd. At that time, the Seres Group started by making continuous investments in research and development in the automotive sector. As a result, the Seres Group was able to achieve achievements in terms of electric drive technology, smart connectivity and autonomous driving systems.

One of his latest projects is a vehicle platform designed to be able to roam for long distances with pure electric propulsion. Meanwhile, Seres and Aito have released their last model, the M7 in July 2022, by offering an electric SUV concept with large dimensions and supported by a premium cabin appearance. In addition, there are a number of cutting-edge technologies from the safety side to entertainment services for cabin occupants.

“The official announcement regarding the change of the official name of Chongqing Sokon to Seres was made on July 31, 2022. The change of name to Seres Group is the company's strong determination to continue to develop smart electric vehicles in the luxury car market," said Zhang Xinghai, Chairman of Seres.

Meanwhile, the name Seres SF5 itself was once crowded in the Indonesian automotive market when PT Sokonindo Automobile, the agent holding the DFSK brand, brought it to the IIMS 2022 event. There are two electric motors that drive all four wheels with a power of 35 kWh and are able to carry it up to 1,000 km. Although it has not been officially sold in Indonesia, the Seres SF5 has received quite a positive response from Indonesian consumers, especially electric car lovers.

Honda Hornet Engine Details Revealed, Use Unicam 755 cc

Honda has announced that the Hornet is getting an all-new engine. Use the Unicam 8-valve Parallel-Twin 755 cc engine. It is claimed to have an output of 90.5 hp at 9,500 rpm and 75 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm. It has a 270-degree burn sequence and the sound character it produces mimics that of the V-Twin engine.

Honda Hornet Engine Details Revealed, Use Unicam 755 cc

Last year Honda revealed a teaser drawing the Hornet Concept. The manufacturer released that model to revive the popular mid-range nude streetfighter. The prototype unit at that time was still in the form of sculptures and was done in detail by computers. The language expressed in the artwork is only about "ultramodern" motorcycles with "exciting engine performance."

Rumors about a new 750 cc engine from Honda have been circulating for quite some time. Although the company already has the 745 cc parallel twin engine that currently powers the NC750X, Forza 750, and X-ADV. This all-new unit is also not taken from the Africa Twin engine which was reworked by making it smaller.

Instead, the manufacturer developed a short-stroke parallel-twin unicam engine while borrowing some elements from the dirt bike lineup, and reworked it for this platform. The Unicam SOHC architecture (borrowed from the CRF model), allows this engine to have compact dimensions to help reduce weight and allow for a higher compression ratio.

Honda Hornet Engine Details Revealed, Use Unicam 755 cc

In comparison, the current 745 cc parallel engine only produces around 58 hp at 6,750 rpm and 69 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. The difference in capacity is only 10 cc, but the power that is incised has a significant difference.

The development of the Hornet was led by Fuyuki Hosokawa, Honda Project Manager who also took part in the construction of the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. In a statement, Fuyuki said that the Hornet has always been a very special motorcycle for Honda. Its performance is attractive and balanced by agile and agile handling.

Fuyuki Hosokawa claims the uneven combustion sequence allows it to have a wide spread of torque throughout the rev range, while providing top-end thrust. He also said that this machine is still comfortable to drive at city speeds, especially in heavy traffic conditions.

Honda Hornet Engine Details Revealed, Use Unicam 755 cc

“Before starting this project, we thought long and hard about what kind of performance we want to give the riders. We know it's important to keep the classic Hornet power going but with a modern build. We wanted this engine to have very strong torque and a 'pulsing' sensation at low to mid rpm speeds. Our goal has always been to match this with the lightest and most agile handling, to make every journey even within the city as exciting as possible,” he said.

“To get the performance and light handling we wanted, we had to develop an all-new short stroke twin cylinder engine, with a 270 degree crankshaft. This produces not only high speed, but also sporty low torque. Ideal for driving in urban environments and off corners on the open road.”

With the peak output generated by the new engine, it means he can go head to head with Honda's own Aprilia Tuono 660 and CB650R. With this bike, Honda aims to break into the international mid-range naked streetfighter market, which has largely been dominated by the Yamaha MT-07 and Suzuki SV650.

This engine is also expected to be installed in the upcoming Honda Transalp. But it is possible to reset it to suit the characteristics of the tualang motor. As EICMA takes place in a few months away, it is hoped that Honda will launch at least one of these two mid-range challengers.

For your information, the Unicam engine is like a combination of DOHC and SOHC types. The way it works there are two cam protrusions that work to push the valve in like a DOHC engine. While the other bulges move the exhaust valve with the help of the rocker arm, the same thing with the performance of the SOHC engine.

The advantage is less friction like SOHC, but with capabilities like a DOHC engine. Another advantage is the cylinder head construction which is more compact. So that Honda's advantage when designing a chassis that wants a light weight and also compact. That's why Unicam technology is usually applied to trail or enduro motorcycles such as the CRF series which must have great power, but the weight must be reduced for agility to maneuver.

New Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Born in Europe, Use Renault's Platform

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation introduced the Mitsubishi ASX or better known as the RVR and the Outlander Sport in several countries. This update targets the European compact SUV segment and the presence of the ASX has started since 2010. Interestingly, the model introduced uses the product base of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. The platform uses the CMF-B model which had previously been developed by Renault through the Captur product.

New Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Born in Europe, Use Renault's Platform

Based on Mitsubishi's official release, it was revealed that the latest ASX products will be produced at the Renault factory in Valladolid Spain and will be present in March 2023 at Mitsubishi showrooms in several European markets.

The latest ASX makes the impression of Mitsubishi products disappear a little. However, Mitsubishi ensures that distinctive designs such as the Dynamic Shield are still given. This can be seen from the thick grille design with the iconic three large diamond logo on the front. In addition, the smooth design lines, typical of European designs, with a wide body size show a strong impression of an SUV. The front and rear appearance is different from its predecessor which is more similar to its Captur twin.

The interior offers ample cargo space. The rear row of seats can be adjusted back and forth to meet the needs of passenger space. The Smartphone-ink Display Audio (SDA) feature is located in the center of the instrument panel. In addition, the Multi-Sense system that can be adjusted via SDA allows the driver to choose the driving mode to suit their needs.

In addition, there is an advanced driver assistance system technology feature via MI-PILOT. Some of them include adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist and several other features for safety support while driving.

About the engine, ASX is offered in several options. This is to meet the transportation needs and choice of machinery in the European market. Highest is the plug in hybrid system (PHEV) with a 1.6 liter petrol engine paired to two electric motors, an alternator starter and a motor. This model uses an automatic transmission, a multi-mode gearbox and a 10.5 kWh battery.

New Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Born in Europe, Use Renault's Platform

The full hybrid (HEV) model uses a 1.6 liter petrol engine with two electric motors. This model uses an automatic transmission, a multi-mode gearbox and a 1.3 kWh battery. Mild hybrid model for those who want a cheaper price, comes with a 1.3 liter direct injection turbo engine. This model is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed double clutch automatic transmission (7DCT). The cheaper model is offered with a 1.0-liter turbo gasoline engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

ASX or Outlander Sport itself in Indonesia has been discontinued some time ago. The reason is because in the Outlander segment, Mitsubishi Indonesia has the newer Eclipse Cross. Will this latest model be present in Indonesia? We'll just have to wait some time.
