2026 Kia Seltos Takes a Major Step Forward With New Platform, More Space and Improved Comfort

The Kia Seltos is stepping into its next generation with more than just a fresh design. The all-new model adopts Hyundai-Kia's new K3 platform, bringing improvements in body rigidity, driving stability, interior space, and overall ride comfort.

The move comes as competition in the compact SUV market continues to intensify. The latest Seltos represents a significant evolution for the nameplate, combining a redesigned exterior with a new underlying architecture designed to improve the driving experience.

For American consumers, where compact SUVs and crossovers remain among the most popular vehicle segments, the new platform could give the Seltos a stronger position against established rivals.

The First User of the K3 Platform

Although the K3 platform was developed by Hyundai-Kia, the All-New Seltos has been given the opportunity to become the first model to use the new platform.

The adoption of this new platform contributes to the vehicle's more spacious interior. However, on the other hand, the All-New Seltos is also heavier than the previous generation.

“With its larger body and various structural improvements, the All-New Seltos weighs approximately 140 kilograms more than the first-generation model.”

Engine and Transmission

Despite its all-new body, Kia continues to equip the Seltos with a Smartstream 1.5-liter engine paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).

This engine is also used in several Kia and Hyundai models that are already familiar to consumers in Indonesia. In terms of output, the engine produces 113 hp and 144 Nm of torque, delivering performance that is more or less similar to the powertrain used in the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Creta.

Final Thoughts

The all-new Kia Seltos marks an important step forward for Kia's compact SUV lineup. By moving to the K3 platform, the latest generation gains a stronger structural foundation while also offering more interior space and improved NVH performance.

The continued use of the 1.5-liter Smartstream engine and IVT transmission suggests that Kia is focusing on delivering a familiar, practical powertrain rather than making performance the primary focus.

Ultimately, the new Seltos appears to be designed around a simple formula: more space, better comfort, improved refinement, and a more modern platform.

As the compact SUV market continues to grow and competition becomes increasingly fierce, those upgrades could be crucial in helping the Kia Seltos stand out among the many crossovers competing for American buyers' attention.
