Qatar Losail Circuit Not Opening MotoGP 2023, Replaced by Mandalika?

The Losail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar is no longer hosting the 2023 MotoGP season opener. This is because the track is undergoing major renovations and redesigns. Dorna Sports said that the Qatar GP might be held towards the end of the 2023 season. So, who has the chance to replace the schedule, is it Mandalika?

As we know, Qatar made its debut in the MotoGP World Championship starting in 2004. It has held the role of season opener since 2007, with the exception of 2020 when Covid-19 forced the postponement of the start of the season. And since 2008, this circuit is the only one to hold races under floodlights or at night.

Apart from being a MotoGP venue, the Losail International Circuit has been appointed to host the World Superbike (WSBK). In fact, holding a Formula 1 race, to fill the vacant slot in the 2021 calendar. The Qatari government has also officially signed a 10-year contract as the location for a land jet race, starting from 2023 to 2032.

Qatar Losail Circuit Not Opening MotoGP 2023, Replaced by Mandalika?

In order to streamline the two prestigious events of MotoGP and Formula 1, the manager of Losail has indeed planned to overhaul the circuit so that the Qatar Grand Prix can run smoothly next season.

The plan is for the Losail Circuit renovation to be carried out this year. This major overhaul is not only the track, but also the redesign of the paddock area. Other supporting facilities are also not spared from the renewal. Including, the construction of a new area for the audience. Everything is done by the manager in order to create a new and more interesting atmosphere.

Despite its rejuvenation status, the 5.4 km long circuit has extended its commitment to enliven MotoGP until 2031.

“Losail International Circuit will undergo a major renovation and remodeling of the paddock area and circuit facilities for 2023. Instead, the race at Losail has been moved to the end of the season. The renovation project has started running from this year. We'll see areas rebuilt to create a better experience for all. Including visitors, racers to competing teams. All the work done will make Losail a circuit with racing facilities with the best equipment in the world," reads a MotoGP statement.

Because it has undergone a complete overhaul, it is very likely that the renovations carried out will not be completed in early 2023. Therefore, the Losail circuit cannot open MotoGP next season. Until now, the organizers still have not announced a calendar for next season.

Mandalika to Host the Opening Round of MotoGP 2023?

Until now, Dorna Sport is still looking for an alternative to find the MotoGP 2023 opening circuit with several logical options. There are two options that should be taken into account by the organizers. The first could be Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Despite his position on the threshold of the rainy season, he can be an alternative for the whole team. Because it can save costs by combining pre-season testing after from Sepang, Malaysia.

Another option is to fall to Australia. It can be moved from the traditional October slot to March. It's a move that is likely to be welcomed, as the current schedule often sees racing hampered by windy conditions.

Ducati racers dominate the French GP front start

Two racers from the Lenovo Ducati team dominated the front start at the French GP after recording the fastest time in the qualifying session, Saturday (14/5/2022). Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller will start in positions one and two, making their chances of reaching the podium wide open.

Bagnaia even broke the fastest lap record officially recorded at the Bugatti Le Mans circuit with a time of 1 minute 30.450 seconds. This record also surpassed the achievement of Enea Bastianini of Gresini Racing Ducati and became the fifth record-breaking time this weekend. The achievement of this leading start is also a repetition of the last Spanish GP.

In third place was Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro. The winner of the podium in Portimao and Jerez, who is also the champion of the Argentine GP, admitted that he took advantage of the good results in the Jerez test on the motorbike setting. Mainly to improve performance.

“The Aprilia RS-GP is at an incredible level right now, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved. Especially at the start of the race which affects the final result. The team is working calmly and well towards the French GP," said Aleix.

His teammate, Maverick Vinales, is still trying to adapt to his bike. In Sunday's race, Vinales started from 14th position.
In fourth place is Fabio Quartarao from the Monster Yamaha team and is a rider from the Japanese manufacturer in the top five riders. Quartararo himself has revealed that he got a good pace during free practice and hopes for the best results in the next race, although disappointed with the qualifying result that saw him start in fourth position.

“But after a while, I feel happy knowing that we are very good and consistent. The achievement of 1 minute 30.6 seconds is very good. I feel like I'm at my limit and there's nothing more I can give. I hope the race is different to Jerez," said Quartararo.

The host racer also noticed that the tire temperature and pressure were different from the previous race. The race which lasted 27 laps gave anyone the opportunity to attack the racer in front. The 2021 world champion feels confident in both dry and wet conditions, to win.

Another interesting achievement came from Bastianini who started in fifth position. This Italian racer became a non-factory racer alias from a satellite team who was in the leading five racers. Bastia said this result was quite satisfactory and showed the ability of his motorbike to be very fast throughout the weekend.

"I can say that our team came back well. There were some technical issues over the weekend but the team feels ready for the race session, even if it rains. Being up front is definitely an advantage. I see Quartararo also has good pace but we will try to stay close to him later," Bastianini said.

Marc revealed that he felt the bike setting was not so good in the fourth free practice. This made him have to improve time and speed coupled with minor accidents.

“I then went through qualifying with new tires and hoped to get the fastest time but the speed wasn't there. We need to understand why. Normally I can adapt well in this weather, but not today. Looking at the timetable, we can still fight in the second group in the race later," said Marc.

Closer to TVS XL 100

PT TVS Company Indonesia officially launched a multifunctional motorcycle with quite an attractive visual. Named TVS XL 100 Heavy Duty i-Touchstart, the motorbike is sold at an affordable price of Rp. 13.900.000 for the black color option and Rp. 14.390,000 for the brown color option. The entire price is already OTR Jabodetabek status.

According to the tagline, "Heavy Duty", this motorbike is claimed to be able to accommodate the needs of its consumers. However, the main focus is to support business operations, but it is also interesting to hang out like young people.

Since its launch in March 2022, the TVS XL 100 Heavy Duty i-Touchstart has proven successful in making consumers curious through its design and features. Well in this article, we will dissect in full what advantages the automatic duck motorbike has. Check out the full details below, OK?

Design

In terms of design, the TVS XL 100 has a dual function. The visuals are similar to the Honda CT125 which is like a classic dirt bike in the mid 90's.

To support the retro impression, the headlights use a round model with orange turn signal markers. While at the rear use a box-shaped stop lamp which is also sweetened with a matching turn signal at the front.

Despite having similarities with the Honda CT125, the TVS XL 100 has a unique frame design and is lower than most motorcycles. He uses a flat deck model that can be used to carry goods. The fuel tank is placed on the neck of the motorcycle frame.

Dimension

In terms of dimensions, the TVS XL 100 has a total length of 1,834 mm, a width of 650 mm, and a height of 1,115 mm. As for the wheelbase playing at 1,228 mm, the lowest distance to the ground is 158 mm, and the empty weight of the motorbike is only 89 kilograms.

The body shape is more compact than the Honda CT125 which has a length of 1,960 mm, a width of 805 mm, and a height of 1,085 mm. Now with this tiny body shape, it feels like TVS XL 100 can be relied on for everyday commuting needs.

Design the legs

Regarding the set of legs, from the specification sheet, it uses a telescopic type front suspension where there is a kind of rubber on the shockbreaker rod. In addition to protecting it from debut, the rubber component has also succeeded in boosting the old-school appearance of this motorbike.

As for the shock absorbers behind the dual suspension model, unfortunately it has not been equipped with a suspension tenderness setting. As for the two wheels, use the spokes model, where the entire brake system still relies on the drum model.

The wheels used are 16 inches in size both at the front and rear. Even with the size profile that is packaged, both use a size of 2.50.

Machine Specification

Referring to technical data, TVS provides it with a 99.7 cc 1-cylinder injection engine with a maximum power of 4.3 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 6.5 Nm at 3,500 rpm. That output is mated to a unique 1-speed or single-speed transmission.

Meanwhile, the TVS XL 100 is also called the first motorcycle that can be operated with only one gearshift, and can then be used as a motorcycle with an automatic transmission system.

Features

The excellent feature offered by this motorbike is the i-Touchstart device to start the engine faster. Then there is also a USB-type device battery charging dock, and an engine cut-off switch like in a sport motorbike.

Another practical feature is that it allows the rear seats to be removed with a solid platform so that there is more floor or deck space. The rest is an additional device to maintain security, a crashbar has been added, then on the back, on the left side, there is a kind of chain cover for additional protection.

Unfortunately for the lighting system, it still uses ordinary halogen lamps, both at the front, rear, and turn signal lights. The panel meter is still analog type without any digital combination.

Officially Leaving MotoGP, Check Out Suzuki's Achievements

Suzuki has officially announced that the end of the 2022 season will be their last time competing in the MotoGP race. On Thursday (12/5), through their official channel, they confirmed that they would no longer participate in the Grand Prix due to the team's financial and economic problems.

"Suzuki Motor Corporation is in discussions with Dorna about the possibility of ending its participation in MotoGP at the end of 2022. Unfortunately, the current economic situation and the need to concentrate efforts on the major changes facing the Automotive world in recent years, forced Suzuki to shift costs and resources to human resources to develop new technologies," wrote Suzuki, quoted from Suzuki-Racing.

Suzuki also appreciates the support for the fans and the Suzuki Ecstar team who have contributed since 2015. "We would like to say a big thank you to the Suzuki Ecstar Team and to all those who have supported Suzuki motorcycle racing activities over the years. Then to all Suzuki fans who have given us enthusiastic support," Suzuki continued in his statement.

Until now, Suzuki has collected 16 motorcycle racing titles since its debut in 1962. Most recently when the Japanese manufacturer won the MotoGP world title in 2020 through the expertise of Joan Mir.

Mir managed to become the 2020 MotoGP world champion while leaving 1 last series. The 25-year-old racer managed to smoke Franco Morbidelli with a difference of 13 points. The 2022 season was one of Suzuki's best moments, apart from Mir succeeding in bringing Suzuki to the top, his partner Alex Rins' performance was also quite good by staying in 3rd position until the end of the racing season at that time.

Now in the 2022 season, the performance of the two Suzuki riders is also quite competitive. Mir and Rins are still very likely to win the championship because the race has only been running for 5 series. Rins is currently 4th in the 2022 MotoGP standings and Mir is 6th.

Before the era of Mir and Rins, Suzuki had triumphed and won the world champion victory thanks to the achievements of Barry Sheene, Marco Lucchinelli, Franco Uncini, Kevin Schwantz, and Kenny Roberts Jr. However, these 4 racers compete in the 500cc class.

Kenny Roberts Jr. became the last Suzuki rider to successfully win the world title in the 500cc premier class in 2000. But Kenny's luck did not run smoothly in the next season even when he rose to the MotoGP premier class. It was only in 2020, Mir and Rins returned Suzuki's sharp fangs at the elite level of racing.

Unfortunately in the 2021 season Mir and Rins were not as consistent as the previous season. Mir was only in 3rd place and Rins was scattered far in 13th position until the end of the season. As explained earlier, the chance for these two riders to shine in MotoGP 2022 is actually wide open, but with information that Suzuki's departure from the MotoGP race will affect the performance of both.
